Our Story

Award Winning Chinese & Thai Cuisine

Rice & Noodle Restaurant opened up 16 years ago, in August 2007. Owner, Mei Zou wanted to bring the ethnic dishes of her home, China and Toronto where she first lived and worked before deciding to come here in 2007. She learned to cook Thai food from her mom and dad.

Rice & Noodle specializes in Chinese and Thai cuisine, and Zou says the Thai dishes are the most popular, because they’re not as easily available in this area.

This is Mei’s 7th year being voted Best of Chatham-Kent and she thanks the public for their support. She praises her staff regularly as they are the reason for the restaurant receiving the award.

Take-out & Reservations

The restaurant, which has a staff of about 10, offers a variety of appetizers, salads, rice dishes, soups, noodle dishes and more. “We have a very popular cashew chicken, pad thai and thai tom yum soup,” she says.

Zou is always experimenting to see what people like and new items are added to provide even more choices for diners. Recently, she added almond chicken and Thai Royal chicken. She says that chicken dishes are more popular at the restaurant than either beef or seafood dishes. This year Mei has added Carmel Crisp for dessert, and Black Pepper Beef.

Local Focus

Our customers are like family

In China and Thailand, the food is spicier, but it’s not as spicy here, as the menu has been adjusted to suit Canadian tastes. For those adventurous people who enjoy spicy food, they can get the sauce on the side or have the dish prepared spicier.

Having been in Chatham now for over  15 years, Zou says she has really come to know her customers and she knows the regulars by their first name. “They come in asking how I am and it’s like a very close family. We have developed a good following of loyal customers,” says Zou.
